Thayeria obliqua

In contrast to its close relative Thayeria boehlkei, Thayeria obliqua is only rarely found in trade. The third species of the genus Thayeria ifati is even rarer. I have not seen it myself yet, which might be due to its endemism in the rivers of Maroni and Approuague in French Guyana, from where no exports can be realized. The fourth, recently described species Thayeria tapajonica MOREIRA & LIMA, 2017 originating from Rio Tapajós in Brazil is not in trade either. Continue reading

Again and again: “L 56”

Constantly one encounters the designation “L 56” in stock lists, in shops as well as in many many lists of aquarists. This refers to Parancistrus aurantiacusthe “Golden Broad-headed Sucker Catfish”, but this species does not have an L-number and should never have been given one, because it was scientifically described by CASTELNAU in 1855 and therefore does not fall under the fish numbers were given to: a species that is indeterminable at the time of number assignment and therefore “deserves” an L-number. Eine wahre Pracht: CW158

Aus einem Zufluss des brasilianischen Rio Negro konnte Pier Aquatics (Wigan, England) zu Beginn des Jahres einen neuen Corydoras importieren, der Anfang April eine neue CW-Nummer bekommen hat: CW158. Bis dahin wurde dieser ausgesprochen attraktive Panzerwels als Corydoras sp. “parallelus II” bezeichnet, in Anlehnung an die Ähnlichkeit der Flankenzeichnung. Continue reading

RG Fulda: Welsarterhaltungstag (WAT)

Am 26. Mai 2018 fand der 3. WAT unter der Leitung der BSSW Regionalgruppe Fulda und der Schirmherrschaft von Ingo SEIDEL im Jägerhaus Fulda statt. Bernd HÄMMELMANN und Hermann HAHNER, die Organisatoren mit ihrem Team, hatten gute Vorarbeit geleistet, so dass die Veranstaltung ohne Verzögerung beginnen konnte. Continue reading
