At the 1st International L-Number-Days in 2009, Johannes LEUENBERGER reported for the first time on the successful reproduction of the ever-popular “golden nugget”. In the following years, aquarists tried again and again, but mostly unsuccessfully. Until 2021, when the Bellenz Fish Farm was able to report another success. The Bellenz Fish Farm is known for outstanding breeding successes (Scobinancistrus aureatus, L 368, Pseudacanthicus spp. etc.) and has already lectured about this at numerous IG BSSW events. Meinen ersten Panaqolus albivermis habe ich unter der Bezeichnung ‘Peru-Zebrawels’ Mitte 2007 in einem Baumarkt gekauft. Das war bei mir der ausschlaggebende Punkt, der mich zu einem Welsianer gemacht hat. Dies ist aber ein anderes Thema.
Die Geschichte von Trigonostigma somphongsi ist wohl eine der typischen “Totgesagte leben länger”-Geschichten.
Schwielenwelse gehören schon seit sehr langer Zeit zum festen Bestand der Aquaristik. Der erste europäische Import von Megalechis thoracata nach Deutschland erfolgte bereits 1911 durch die Vereinigten Zierfischzüchtereien. Etwas schneller war ein anderer Schwielenwels, Callichthys callichthys, dessen Erstnachzucht bereits 1910 in Russland und 1935 in Deutschland gelang.
